Released in January 2025, the scores from the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) delivered a sobering reality check for American schools, revealing that nearly 40% of fourth graders scored Below Basic in reading. In response, the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading convened a nine-part webinar series, engaging 50 leading educators, policymakers, and researchers in an exploration of what the NAEP results can tell us and where they point us. In follow- up to those webinars, CGLR released a report synthesizing the insights shared and calling for NAEP to be leveraged as a catalyst for urgent, evidence-backed action.
