The Highway 82 wildfire—the most destructive wildfire in Georgia’s history—is roughly 95% contained as of late May 2026, holding steady at an estimated 22,420 acres. While the active threat has largely slowed, emergency crews continue to handle structural recovery and mitigate lingering hotspots. With the transition from active firefighting to community rebuilding, they are several ways you can make a difference.
