Annual Governor’s Summit: Supporting Emergent Literacy Development with Evidence-Based Practices for Young Children
Wednesday, July 12, 2023 @ 12:00am - 11:59pm
Each year, the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center proudly sponsors the Governor’s Summit, a two-day early language and literacy initiative created to bring together content experts, educators, and other professionals from across the state. We honor Governor and Mrs. Deal’s commitment to advancing early education in Georgia through this forum for practitioners to share evidence-based research, best practices, collaborations, and outcomes. As part of each Summit, we also encourage ongoing conversations among participants that lead to better early childhood language and literacy outcomes in each and every community of Georgia. We hope you will attend our next Summit and carry on our tradition of working together to transform ideas to practice.
2023 Governor’s Summit
The title of this year’s Summit is Supporting Emergent Literacy Development with Evidence-Based Early Language and Literacy Practices for Young Children. The Summit will be held on July 12, 2023, from 12 PM to 4 PM, followed by a celebration of the legacy of Mrs. Deal with a ticketedFundraising event, Dinner with the Deal Center, from 6:30-8:30 pm-a night with food, music, painting unveiling, and much more. The Summit will continue on July 13, 2023, from 8 AM to 4 PM at the campus of the Georgia College and State University, located in Milledgeville. Over the course of two days the Summit unites educational leaders, research scholars, policy leaders, and community leaders to celebrate progress and galvanize state and local action toward building a community of practice for evidence-based early language and literacy practices. The Deal Center believes Literacy Changes Lives, and now more than ever, we need to turn this promise into practice and policy.
