Caring for Yourself While Caring for Others – Vicarious Trauma
Wednesday, October 28, 2026 @ 3:00pm - 4:00pm
FreeYou provide the care. You listen to the stories. You manage the difficult moments. You advocate, encourage, comfort, and support.
But how is caring for someone who has experienced trauma affecting you?
Amerigroup (AGP) invites caregivers to an important and supportive webinar focused on Vicarious Trauma: Recognizing the Impact of Caring for Children and Families Who Have Experienced Trauma.
Foster parents, kinship caregivers, grandparents raising grandchildren, and other caregivers often provide support to children who have experienced abuse, neglect, loss, separation, instability, or other traumatic events. While caregiving can be rewarding, repeated exposure to another person’s trauma can also affect the caregiver’s own emotional and physical well-being.
During This Webinar, We Will Discuss:
- What vicarious trauma is and how it can develop through repeated exposure to another person’s traumatic experiences.
- The differences between vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, caregiver stress, and burnout.
- Common warning signs, including emotional exhaustion, irritability, changes in sleep, difficulty concentrating, feeling overwhelmed, and withdrawing from others.
- How a child’s trauma and behaviors can sometimes trigger emotional responses in caregivers.
- The importance of recognizing your own stressors, limits, and emotional needs.
- Practical strategies for self-care, healthy boundaries, resilience, and stress management.
- The importance of developing a support system and knowing when to seek additional help.
- Ways caregivers can continue supporting children while also protecting their own well-being.
Caring for Yourself Matters, Too
Caregivers often become focused on appointments, school, behavioral needs, court requirements, family responsibilities, and making sure everyone else is okay.
Your well-being is part of the equation.
Recognizing the effects of vicarious trauma is not about caring less. It is about developing the awareness, resources, and support needed to continue caring in a healthy and sustainable way.
Amerigroup looks forward to having you join us.
