Unmasking the Trauma of Bullying

In this training, learners will increase their knowledge about the impact of trauma on youth and bullying by focusing on childhood adversities and trauma; the adverse effects of trauma on children and youth; how bullying can be childhood adversity or trauma; the key characteristics of bullying; basic dos and don’ts for preventing and responding to bullying; and how to respond to an instance of bullying. This training supports staff and volunteers who work with children and youth from challenging places and situations to better prevent and respond to bullying among the children they serve.

CEUs: Hours – 3

This training is approved for three hours of continuing education for core social work, related licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, DECAL/Bright from the Start, family violence intervention specialists (FVIP), POST, Babies Can’t Wait Project SCEIs in Area 1 Children and Famlies-Birth to 8, and nursing.

Instructor

Liz Gallaspy is a Social Worker with over 28 years of experience in Child Welfare and Inpatient Psychiatric Treatment. She has been with Georgia State University Professional Excellence Program for over 10 years. She received her MSW from the University of Michigan and her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Mississippi Valley State University. She had her own Adoption and Foster Care Agency geared towards special need adoption. She works part-time at an inpatient psychiatric dual diagnosis facility where she provides family sessions, psychosocial assessments, process groups, individual sessions, and outpatient substance abuse interventions. Liz also finds joy in being a mother to her two young adult men.
